Welcome to Houston.
This sign welcomes me back at the Bush Intercontinental Airport after returning from a drill rig.
On my most recent trip to a rig, working the night shift, listening to old men tell me about prison, I decided to blog. Many of my friends and family have asked me about what I do, what are my friends like, what is Houston like, what has God done for me, what's next, and the list goes on. I decided to pick up blogging as a way to answer those questions, yes, but more to put my thoughts, my life, my work, my joys, my troubles, and my concerns to words.
What you may see is that I like to engage in an on going discussion on many yet few things. I like to leave no question unasked, yet take comfort in questions unanswered. Unanswered questions continue the discussion, continue to learning process. This is because the moment the last question is answered and I am satisfied, I quickly, or rather forcefully, learn that there is always more to learn. I encourage you, to ask me questions, to debate my conclusions, to continue the discussion, to struggle with questions that people have struggled with since the beginning of time. I welcome it and hope that you and I will become better because of it.

To begin, I opened with a teaser.
"What are you talking about?" You may be thinking.
Ah but look, the title is "Spud Date."
You may now be thinking, "Oh yea, what does that mean?"
To those of you outside of the upstream petroleum industry, "Spud Date" is the day when the bit first contacts earth and a rig begins to drill and new well.
Today, is my "spud date" to blogging.
