On Seven Days and Fourteen Billion Years: Part 2

If people are willing to doubt God’s account of his work in creation, what else are they willing to doubt?
Rephrased, this might say,
If there is reason to doubt God’s account of creation, then isn’t their reason to doubt the rest of the Bible?
This is a big question and it has big implications, doesn't it?

On Seven Days and Fourteen Billion Years: Part 1

Recently, Bill Nye the Science Guy and Ken Ham, outspoken creationist, debated if Ken Ham's model of creation is a viable model of the origins of life, the universe, everything.

The debate was very interesting and appreciatively civil.
Bill Nye's argument is driven home by the brilliance of his greatest unspoken point as one of my good friends said about the debate:

"I am very glad that agreeing to and becoming a young earth creationist is NOT a stipulation to being a Bible believing Christian.
Conversely, I am very glad that agreeing to and becoming an atheistic evolutionist is NOT a stipulation to being an effective student and practitioner of science."

A Snow Drift and Astonishing Questions

Let me tell you two stories.

The first is of a young man who was born and raised in a foreign nation. This young man moved back to Jerusalem with his family and an intense passion to hear the Text. He was very poor and worked as a day labor to support his family. Every day he would climb up onto the temple courtyard wall to listen to the greatest teachers in Israel talk about the word of God. You see, there was a cover charge to get in to listen that he couldn't afford.

Why?

Why?

Why am I curious? Why do I want to study and know more about science and about people and about the bible and about God? Why do I ask questions and challenge a system of living set up from generations of tradition? Why do I challenge others? Why do I challenge myself?

I recently watched one of my favorite movies from high school called "The Island" starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson. Survivors of the apocalypse are found and taken to a rehabilitation facility where they are kept healthy. Lucky ones get to win a lottery to go to an uncontaminated paradise called "The Island." Eventually everyone there will do go The Island except for the works dedicated to finding survivors and keeping the facility running.

The survivors have regular day jobs, a nice home, wonderful recreational and workout facilities, almost a paradise getaway of its own.

Disjointed Thoughts: Life, Death, and Prostitution?

This is the first of a mini-series that I am writing called "Disjointed Thoughts." Here I'll discuss different thoughts that I have recently been chewing on and wrestling with. Perhaps there will be a way to tie them together or perhaps not. Maybe one of these thoughts could turn into a full blog later on one of these thoughts, or maybe they won't. Let's get the dialog going.

Hold my milk, and watch this...

Life and death both continually reoccur in nature everywhere that we look. Death must occur for life to exist.
Night must occur before a new day begins.
The moon must go dark before it can be full again.
Small atoms must face a violent destruction for their energy to create and fuse larger new atoms.
Stars must supernova to create new galaxies.
Plants must die to provide the nutrients for animal and human life.
Plants and animals must die, be buried, and ferment to create petroleum for energy.

This pattern of death brings new life is beautifully painted all around us from the beginning of time.
